  4. Learning Method and Assessment

The teaching and assessment of this qualification integrates the four basic themes of the Early Years Foundation Stage:

    • A Unique Child
    • Positive Relationships
    • Enabling Environments
    • Learning and Development

You will be assessed by three different methods: assessor observation; walk and talk with an assessor; and a reflective task. The assessor observation and walk and talk methods will require an assessor to visit your setting.

You will need to prepare for the assessor's visit and complete some work beforehand. This is outlined in the assessment for each unit. Your assessor will have verifiable and relevant current experience and competence in early.

  5. Elegibility

CACHE does not recommend any formal entry qualifications. However, as the assessments are work-based, you are required to be working in a regulated setting caring for children from birth to five years. You can be working as an employee or volunteer, or as a student on a work placement under the guidance of a qualified practitioner.

This is not a full Level 3 qualification; however, it will update the existing knowledge and experience held by practitioners who already have a recognised Level 3 qualification. It may also be a valuable route of professional development for practitioners at different levels. For example, practitioners with a Level 2 qualification may wish to take the CACHE Level 3 Certificate in Early Years Foundation Stage Practice to enhance their professional practice before moving on to a full Level 3 qualification.
