Role / Duties:
  • To assist with the planning of the curriculum using the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum for guidance.
  • To help set up the playroom(s) for the daily programme and to help tidy away at the end of the session.
  • Build an effective working relationship with colleagues, ensuring each child's need are recognised and met.
  • Under the guidance of mentor, work in partnership with parents/carers and other family members.
  • To advise your mentor or the nursery manager of any concerns e.g. over children, parents or the safety of equipment, preserving confidentiality at all times.
  • Provide an appropriate level of support and stimulating play experiences.
  • To ensure that children are kept safe and that you understand when to follow child protection procedures.
  • To support meal times within the setting, promote good manners and positive independence.
  • To actively participate at team meetings, tracking progress of your own CPD (Continuous professional development) and supervisor meetings.
  •  To attend training courses as required and to take responsibility for your own development.
  • To keep completely confidential any information regarding the children, their families or other staff, which is acquired as part of the apprentice practitioner role.
  • To be aware of and adhere to all the setting's operational policies and procedures e.g. health and safety, fire precautions, dropping off and collection of children, food safety, cleanliness of the setting etc.
  • To ensure that adequate records are kept and regularly with guidance from your mentor.
  • To be a good ambassador and promote the nursery to current parents and potential customers visiting the setting.
  • To undertake any other reasonable duties as directed by your mentor and nursery manager, in accordance with the setting's business plan/objectives and brand value.
Required Skills / Experience:
  • Willingness to learn
  • A keen interest in child development from children from birth to five years.
  • Good communication skills
  • A willingness to embrace the principles in practice for Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)
  • To complete e learning level 1 on the Local Safeguarding Children's Board website for basic child protection awareness.
  • To acquire an understanding of play based approaches to children's learning and development.
  • To gain an understanding of equal opportunities and what this means in practice.
  • Commitment to working effectively with young children and families.
  • Friendly and flexible approach at work which facilitates the development of effective relationships.
  • Confidence to learn and use ipad for learning procedures relating to key person duties e.g. observations &  assessments.  
Prospects: Progression to Level 3 EYE Apprenticeship.
Training Involved: Apprenticeship – 12-15 month programme of work based learning where you will gain the following qualifications:
  • Level 2 certificate for the Children and young people’s workforce
  • Functional Skills English Level 1
  • Functional Skills Maths Level 1
  • Functional Skills ICT Level 1
  • ERR Workbook
  • PLTS
  • Be Safe
Days/Hours: 30 Hours per week
