Tracey Roberts - Business Admin Apprenticeship Testimonial

"The Apprenticeship in Business Administration provided the ideal platform for me to demonstrate the skills and experience I had accumulated over the years..."

My Background

I left school at 16 with no formal qualifications and landed myself a job with a national parcel delivery company where I worked comfortably as a sales/administration assistant for a number of years. When the recession hit a couple of years ago, it affected our business badly and with redundancies looming, I began to think about my future career options. With the job market becoming ever more competitive, I quickly realised that I would need some qualifications behind me if I was to succeed in finding another job. The Apprenticeship in Business Administration provided the ideal platform for me to demonstrate the skills and experience I had accumulated over the years and this enabled me to quickly build up a portfolio of certificates to prove my capabilities.

Job: Zone Administrator at Richard Rose Morton Academy

Training Provider: RWP Training Limited, Cumbria

What I learned

I always thought apprenticeships were for school leavers looking to start a trade but I have since learned that it is really an opportunity to get some nationally recognised qualifications for the trade I had already been learning for 15 years!

Best bits

The range of qualifications within the apprenticeship helped me prove that I was capable of more and gave me the confidence to apply for a new job. I love my current role which involves taking minutes at meetings, organising events, analysing data and creating powerpoints and spreadsheets. It is much more challenging and rewarding than anything I have done before.

Recommendation

RWP Training were really helpful and gave me lots of advice and information about the options that were available to me. They supported me at all levels, even helping me with my CV and interview techniques.

Ambition

I have just finished my NVQ in Business Administration at level 3 and am already looking into further training opportunities. I am currently doing some internal IT training with the Academy and hope to undertake some A levels to add to my collection of certificates. I would like to get more involved in organising and coordinating events and maybe eventually become a PA to one of the directors of the Academy which would then enable me to look into doing an NVQ at level 4.
