Elaine Smith - Business Admin NVQ Testimonial

"I decided that working towards an NVQ in Administration would be the best option as I would be able to work on my own, at my own pace, with expert assistance to support me..."

What motivated you to undertake an NVQ?

Having left school a long time ago with good basic qualifications, I have been in full time employment ever since. I felt for a long time, that there was no point in studying for anything else, as I had always found exam situations extremely stressful, but over the years, I have worked with younger colleagues who have completed NVQ's and I felt that this may be the way forward for me. I looked into all possibilities and decided that working towards an NVQ in Administration would be the best option as I would be able to work on my own, at my own pace, with expert assistance to support me. Despite all my years of experience, I felt that studying again would be good for my CV and my self-esteem.

Why did you choose RWP as your training provider?

Our school use RWP for training our LSA's, so I contacted them in the first instance to find out what they could offer. I felt at ease immediately, as they were very friendly and informative and answered all my questions about the Administration course. After making the initial enquiries and receiving a lot of support and encouragement, I felt that an NVQ would be something I could manage

Did you have any apprehensions and have these been overcome?

I did have a few sleepless nights after I signed up, wondering if I was taking on too much - studying again after so long is very daunting! Slowly but surely, I am gaining in confidence and am now getting in to a routine of completing the work. I have a lot of support from my workplace mentor and from my assessor, who visits me once a month. I can also access online material to help with the work and as a result, I am really starting to enjoy the course. I work at my own pace, which means I don't have to cram all the work into a short space of time, so I just complete units when I have spare time. I know in the long run that the work I am putting in will be well worth the effort.

Would you recommend this course to others working in a school office?

Definitely! No matter how long you have been working or the amount of experience you have, it is always good to improve the mind and keep up to date with current qualifications. If you have found it stressful or difficult studying for exams in the past, then you will love the way NVQ's work. I felt at one time, that I was too old to gain new qualifications but I love this course and can now say that embarking on my NVQ has given me a new direction in life.
