Anti-Bullying and Harassment Policy (POL/05)

Policy Statement

RWP Training Limited is committed to ensuring that all individuals participating in the learning process with our company receive an enjoyable and fullfilling service. This policy is therefore intended to provide a framework which will assist in the prevention of bullying and harassment and provide guidance as to what action should be taken if such incidences occur.

Policy

  1. Implementation
    1. All staff, learners, employers and subcontractors have a responsibility to recognise bullying and harassment and take appropriate action in accordance with this policy immediately they become aware of any such behaviour.
  2. Procedure for dealing with incidences of bullying and harassment
    1. Staff informed of such behaviour should first listen to the individual concerned and make such enquiries necessary to clarify exactly what has been happening.
    2. The individual should be assured that they have acted correctly by reporting this to someone who may assist.
    3. The staff member should attempt to give advice and support to individual about how to deal with the bully, in accordance with this policy document, but should also state that they shall seek advice from other sources.
    4. The staff member should make a written summary of events on the minute sheet of the individuals personal (red) file and complete a complaint form to bring this information to the attention of the equal opportunities officer who may look for outside guidance on the matter if appropriate, this would then be discussed as a team.
    5. The relevant staff member should follow this up and talk to all the individuals concerned (person being bullied/ bully), agree actions and follow them through. All details should be recorded in individuals personal (red) file.
    6. Employers, mentors and parents should be involved as appropriate and with the full agreement of the individual concerned.
    7. Specific actions by bully/ bullies (e.g. violence, theft, touching etc) may have to go through Employers and RWP’s disciplinary procedures.
    8. The learner should be fully supported by the relevant staff member until the situation has been brought to a satisfactory result and fully resolved.

Bullying and harassment is not a joke. It is unacceptable.

Each learner has the right to feel safe, happy and wanted.

Bullying and harassment could include:

  • Being ignored constantly
  • Being touch uninvited
  • Being excluded from the group
  • Having rumours spread about you
  • Being made fun of

You are helping a bully by:

  • Providing and audience
  • Not supporting someone who is being bullied
  • Passing on harassment notes
  • Passing on rumours
  • Laughing at a bully's actions.

When does bullying and harassment occur?

Any time and anywhere

If you are bullied or harassed you can do something about it.

Positive strategies to help counter bullying.

  • Be assertive. Explain to the bully how you feel
  • Discuss it with your assessor or mentor. Get help from them
  • Consider your behaviour
  • Avoid situations which lead to bullying
  • Ignore it. Don’t let the bully know that you are upset
  • Go to peer meditation
  • Talk to a trusted person
  • Talk to your parents.

Remember it is ok to let someone know what is happening.

  • Provide a reporting method
  • Provide counselling
  • Give advice on how to handle the situation
  • Arrange peer meditation
  • Keep confidentiality if requested
  • Listen sympathetically and carefully and take your problem seriously
  • Support you
  • Investigate all incidents
  • Bring both the victim and the bully together to work the situation through

All bullying and harassment will be taken seriously.

  • Insist on and monitor a behaviour contract
  • Take away privileges
  • Suspend you from learning programme
  • Ask you to leave RWP
